The Traditional Reiki Institute's commitment to professional treatment protocols dictates that our educational program provide our practitioners--and any clients wishing to learn Reiki--the most extensive, reliable, and consistent training available. Reiki is not a religion. It has no arcane dogma, no religious tenets, and it requires no rigorous ascetic practices or rituals. People of all ages, all religions, all beliefs, even confirmed skeptics and those with no beliefs have become Reiki practitioners. In short, anyone can become a conduit for Reiki. To have and use Reiki, students need do nothing more than be attuned by a properly empowered Master (usually over a weekend), then have the intent to make Reiki energy available whenever they put their hands on themselves or someone else.

Reiki abilities pass forward from teacher (Sensei or Master) to student (kohai) within oral traditions as those ancient forms come from Japan. These oral legacies are preserved in lineages or "ryu's" based on a relationship between teacher and student that is critical to the accurate and full transmission of Reiki to new generations of practitioners. The founders and members of TRI are all trained in the lineage of John Harvey Gray, one of the original twenty-two Masters trained by Hawayo Takata. Training in the Gray lineage is a requirement both for membership in TRI and for participation in the healing or research activities of the Institute. Classes in Reiki are taught regularly through TRI for all those wishing to learn Reiki for the first time and for Reiki practitioners in other lineages choosing to retrain in our format.

The Institute's curriculum represents the most comprehensive and thorough training in western Reiki today. Our educational mission is to preserve and expand that existing body of knowledge through teaching people to heal themselves and assist others, through the discovery and publication of new scientific research, and through public seminars, conferences, and workshops on a wide range of topics related to Reiki, alternative healing, and subtle energy science.
